I am a cinematographer from Macedonia.

When I was 24, back then I studied mechanical science for over five years and my head was filled with math equations, physics, and the laws of fluids. I was restless though, as if something was missing, and I couldn’t grasp what it was. One foggy winter night, I went to watch Krzysztof Kieślowski's "Blue". As I left the cinema, I felt a desperate need to abandon my engineering career to become a filmmaker.

A few months later, I was standing at the front door of the Faculty of Drama Arts. All I could see was a completely white, burned-out image before my eyes. It was pure happiness… This lasted for about ten seconds, but I remember it as the happiest day of my life. I saw my name listed on the acceptance list!

My first feature film, Punk’s Not Dead, won the “East of the West” award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2011. Since then, I have worked on nine feature films as a cinematographer, a dozen short films, several series, and a few documentaries. My brother Darko and I co-founded the film production company Focus Pocus Films.

After 25 years of working as a freelance cinematographer, I consider the space in front of my lens the only comfortable place.
